Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only paint children's art pieces? Not at all! While the majority of my work requested is for children, I do also paint canvas paintings for your home or office. I also wood burn (pyrography) on wood, which makes for unique décor or gifts! Canvas isn't my only medium that I paint on, I also paint on trays, plaques, ornaments, etc! I've even had cabinet doors and fan blades sent to me to spruce up with my designs!

Do you paint portraits? No, I don't paint portraits of people or animals. I can do a likeness of someone or a pet with matching hair color, eye color, certain characteristics, etc. match that of the person or pet that you'd like the painted character to resemble.

Do you accept items sent from clients for you to paint? Absolutely! Some people have plain items that they would just love to have spruced up, and I'm here to do that for you! I've had cabinet doors sent to me, an old Civil War Drum, fan blades and even new items that were bought and shipped straight to me. My prices in turn would then be lower because I don't have to purchase the item that is being painted on. You would, however, be responsible for the shipping costs to me.

Do you travel to paint murals? No, I don't travel to do artwork. While I've had several tempting requests to travel and paint someone's store or nursery, I can't leave my family for that long, and I prefer not to paint murals.

Do you have any inventory? No, I always purchase materials when an order is placed, and I love to paint on commission. Most people have an idea of what they want their piece to look like, and I like for each person to have their own custom piece designed just the way they want it. The samples you see on my site are of past orders only, and are not for sale. 90% of the furniture and wall letters that I paint have to be ordered at the time of your purchase, and then built by my supplier which can take 1-2 weeks to arrive at my home.

Where else do you sell? I started out selling on Ebay years ago, and over time, I retained some wonderful clients who continue to order from me, and even referred me to others. You can look up my Ebay I.D. and see my 100% feedback by searching for smoocherpoo. I quit selling on that site and started selling locally and through requests from past clients, referred clients and now new clients through my website.

What are some examples of items you paint? I paint a wide variety of things, and if it's not a sealed, shiny surface, chances are that I can paint on it! Some examples include table sets, toy boxes, step stools, night stands, dressers, bookshelves, canvas, wall hangings, small name letters, LARGE initial letters (18" and up), custom made and painted growth charts, fan blades, etc.

Do you carve or do any other type of art besides painting and pyrography? No, but I wish I could!! That's the nice thing about my family....we all are artistic, but do different things. I paint and wood burn, but I have a brother who also wood burns things such as boat paddles, carves, sculpts clay and can even draw/wood burn portraits. My dad creates beautiful hand turned vases, bowls, duck calls and many other hand turned items. My mom paints ceramics and plaster, and makes crafty items such as wreaths. We're all a very crafty and creative family! Our 2 year old already LOVES to paint and draw also, so watch out, I'm sure you'll see her selling art online one day too!

What is your preferred method of communication? I only work through email so that I can use it to reference back if I have any questions about the design or ideas that you have. With a 2 year old (and a newborn who will be here soon), it's hard for me to talk on the phone, or even hear the person on the other end.

How does the process go? We will start out discussing your ideas and go from there. If you decide everything sounds good and want to go ahead and purchase, I'll send an invoice and you would then pay via Paypal. As soon as payment is received, I will purchase or order your piece of furniture, canvas, letter, etc. I work in order of payment received, so there may be others ahead of you at your time of order. *~*If you need it by a certain date, please inquire about the timeframe before buying to make sure I will be able to get it painted and shipped in time.

What is the typical timeframe once you begin on my piece of art? When I begin your piece, I will email you to let you know that I am beginning on it. I always email photos of your piece to make sure that you love it! If you have any changes or additions, they can be done before I varnish it and ship it out. If you're having a toy box or table set painted, I generally email pictures of different steps of the process, such as the table top, then the table top with the legs attached, each chair and then the whole set. Toy boxes are multisided so I send pictures of each side. Once I do begin painting, the time frame depends on your design choice and if you make any changes. Typically, once I begin painting on your project, it takes me less than 1.5 weeks to complete a furniture piece (after getting it in from the manufacturer, which can take 1-2 weeks), and less time for canvas and other smaller type pieces.

What type of paints do you use? I only paint with non-toxic acrylic paints.

What are your prices? Prices vary from piece to piece. It depends on my cost to purchase the materials, time to paint your particular design, etc. Your price quote always includes shipping. Furniture or large/heavy items are shipped via FedEx or UPS with insurance included. Smaller or lightweight items may be shipped via USPS. Email me with your request and I'd be happy to give you a quote!

Is assembly required? Yes, if you order a piece of furniture, then assembly is required in order for me to keep the price lower. Shipping preassembled furniture would add a lot more onto your price quote. All pieces come with an instruction sheet, and we're always happy to answer any questions you may have during assembly.
